Papers for a first conference

A conference is only as good as the file. This is the short list chambers actually reads.

Write a one-page note: who you are, the other side, the forum if known, the last date or order, and what you want. Then attach the last order, the originating paper (FIR, plaint, show-cause, notice, or demand), and a list of what else you hold. PDFs, not a gallery of photographs.

Criminal files: FIR, chargesheet or status, the order under challenge, and bail papers if any. Commercial and recovery files: the contract or facility, the account, the legal notice, and proof of service. Customs and GST: the show-cause, relied-upon documents, the order, and any pre-deposit proof.

Property and family files: title deeds or a certified extract, the genealogy if partition is in issue, and any Bantwara Patra or settlement. Missing papers are said plainly; a conference is not used to guess them.

This is a method for instructing counsel. It is not advice on a live dispute.

General information under Indian law. Not an opinion, not a retainer, not a substitute for a conference on your papers.
